La DTD (document type definition) définit la structure logique d’un document au moyen de marqueurs précisant la manière d’identifier la structure d’un texte, avec ses caractéristiques telles qu’en-têtes, colonnes, marges ou tableaux, afin de conserver cette structure lors d’applications telles que la PAO (publication assistée par ordinateur) ou l’édition électronique. La DTD est incluse dans l’envoi du dit document afin que l’affichage ou l’impression soient conformes aux souhaits de son créateur. Le SGML (standard generalized markup language) est une DTD. Le langage HTML (hypertext markup language) est une forme de DTD définissant la présentation souhaitée d’un document sur le web. -
